Saga Arashiyama Museum of Arts and Culture

The other Nintendo Museum is a site for hardcore fans of the Big N. It is not about video games. But it shares roots with the company. Not only the former president Yamaushi Hiroshi founded it. He invested 20 million American dollars in the facility. And Legend Miyamoto Shigeru designs its main hall, the Autumn Shower Palace Hall.

The Exhibit celebrates the history of Ogura Hyakunin Isshu. And games and even tournaments run in special events. The same game that Chihayafuru is about. A card game when you get to capture an opponent’s card by listening to the singing of one of the one hundred waka poems. Instantly looking for the card with the poem on it on the opponent’s set or defending the card in case it is in your own set. The anthology of one hundred poems was collected by Fujiwara no Teika.

The Other Nintendo Museum opened its doors in 2006 with the name of Shigureden. An interactive exhibit used special Nintendo DS consoles to navigate the floors. But the same year, the game Touch de Oboeru Hyakunin Isshu: DS Shigureden released in Japan as part of the touch generation for Nintendo DS. Where players can compete in Karuta with Hyakunin Isshu anthology in a virtual hall of the recently opened Museum.

The other Nintendo Museum, Shigureden was closed for renovation in 2017 and reopened a year later with the name of Saga Arashiyama Museum of Arts and Culture. The Other Nintendo Museum.
